JS Canvas hand stretches a heavy 10 oz. cotton canvas and primes by hand 3 coats of our own custom blend of gesso. We make all stretchers and panels using the highest quality, furniture grade plywood which we have found to be the most durable and archival material. The JS Story

Our name, JS Canvas, originates from memories of my Grandpa Joe.  He was a Navy Carpenter on the USS James O’hara during World War II.  He began an ongoing tradition in my family by giving his three sons the initials “JS”.  I was lucky enough to work with Grandpa Joe as a boy, where I was first exposed to woodworking and learned several tricks of the trade.  I distinctly remember that he labeled all of his tools with those same initials in permanent marker.

By naming our company JS Canvas, and by labeling all of our products “JS”, we wish to pass down a proud tradition of American quality and craftsmanship from my Grandfather, Joe Spacek, to you.
